Some people think cleaning wool rugs will harm them.  So, they allow dirt and stains to obscure the otherwise vibrant and intricate patterns.  Yet the number one enemy to a wool rug is soil.  Gritty dirt gets into the pile, and as people walk on the rug, damage is being done!  The gritty soil acts like sandpaper, grinding away at the fibers.  Improper or delayed spot removal and moth or insect activity also cause expensive damage.  That is why vacuming is so important with these rugs.  Vacuming once a week, blotting spills immediately, washing every 2-3 years and applying a quality protector are all vital steps in maintaining your rugs.  If properly cared for, they will last a lifetime.

How do we clean rugs?

We thoroughly dust the rug first.  Rugs hold an incredible amount of dry soil at the base of the fibers.  This process dislodges all of the dry soil that regular vacuuming can't.

We then inspect the rug and carefully test the various dyes.  All types of dyes are used in making rugs and some can be unstable.  Each individual color is tested and stabilized prior to cleaning.

We then begin the actual cleaning process.  Considering soil level, pet activity, food or drink spills, and other factors, the rug is pre-treated with a specifically formulated, acid based cleaning solution, then gently agitated.  The fringes are also cleaned and brightened with an oxygenated solution.

The rug is then fiber-rinsed.  This removes all of the cleaning solution, softens the fiber, and ensures proper sheen and color appearance.  Rugs are then speed dried with industrial air movers.The last step is to apply moth-proofing or Scotchgard carpet and rug protector. 

We can clean your rugs on site, but we recommend letting us clean them at our facility for the most thorough cleaning.
